CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

 ^LEADLINE: For riders 6 years of age and under. Rider not eligible for any other classes other than Pattern Ride and must not have competed in any class other than Leadline/Pattern Ride. Rider to be led at the walk. Pony to be on lead at all times.

PATTERN RIDE: Open to riders 12 years and under.  Riders may enter other walk/trot classes only.  Leadline may be used.  Anti-grazing reins allowed.

^PRE-SHORT STIRRUP EQUITATION: Properly attached anti-grazing reins are acceptable for this division. For riders 9 years of age and under. Not eligible for other SC equitation classes or classes requiring cantering or jumping. Must not have ever competed over fences or shown at the canter.

SHORT STIRRUP EQUITATION: Open to riders 12 years and under.  Entries may not cross enter into classes where they would jump over 18”.  Jumping rounds may be trotted or cantered.

^BEGINNER EQUITATION: For riders 11 years and under. Not eligible for other SC equitation classes or classes jumping over 18”. Must not have shown at any show over jumps exceeding 18” in height.

*^VHSA SHORT STIRRUP HUNTER: Open to riders 12 years and under.  Entries may not cross enter into classes where they would jump over 18”.

^YOUNG ENTRY EQUITATION: Not eligible for other SC equitation classes. For riders 12 years of age and under. Jumps not to exceed 2 feet. May cross enter into other divisions as long as the jumps do not exceed 2 feet. Must not have shown at other shows jumping higher than 2’.

^STUDENT EQUITATION: Not eligible for other SC equitation classes.  For riders OVER 12 years of age in 1st or 2nd year of showing at 2 feet.  May cross enter into other divisions as long as the jumps do not exceed 2 feet. Must not have shown at other shows jumping higher than 2 feet. Riders may trot or canter over fences and simple changes are permitted.

^LIMIT HUNTER: Open to horses/ponies ridden by juniors and adult amateurs who are not entered in any classes jumping 2'6" or higher. Ponies must be ridden by juniors. Horses/ponies may be cross-entered into other divisions.

*^PONY PLEASURE:  Open to all ponies 14.2H and under ridden by juniors.

 

*^PONY EQUITATION:  Open to all ponies ridden by juniors. Judged on hands, seat, guidance and control of mount. To be ridden over a separate course of at least 8 fences. At least 1/4 of riders completing the course will return to work on the flat.

*^GREEN PONY HUNTER: Open to all ponies 14.2H and under in their first or second year of showing over fences ridden by juniors.

*^PONY HUNTER: Open to all ponies ridden by juniors.

^VIRGINIA PONY BREEDERS ASSOCIATION: Open to Junior riders on ponies that are properly registered with the VPBA, exhibited under their registered name and in the name of its last recorded owner who must be a current member of the VPBA.

*^ADULT HORSE PLEASURE:  Open to all horses ridden by adults.

 

*^JUNIOR HORSE PLEASURE :  Open to all horses ridden by juniors.

 

LOW HUNTER:  Open to all horses or ponies.  No restrictions on riders. 

 

*^GREEN HUNTER HORSE: Open to all horses in their first or second year of showing over fences.  No restrictions on riders.

*^CHILDREN’S / ADULT HUNTER EQUITATION: One class for Junior/Adult  riders. Judged on hands, seat, guidance and control of mount. To be ridden over a separate course of at least 8 fences. At least 1/4 of riders completing the course will return to work on the flat. Over fences phase to count 50%, flat phase 50%.

*^CHILDREN’S / ADULT-AMATEUR HUNTER: Open to children and adults who qualify as amateurs. Ponies shown in this division may not be shown as a pony (in pony classes) at that show!

*WORKING HUNTER: Open to all horses and ponies ridden by children or adults. Fences 2’9 or 3’.

CALIFORNIA WARMUP: One warmup trip per horse/rider combination.  Will run simultaneously with classes 26-35, 42-53.  Fence height determined by class offerings.  This class not judged.
