Send us your pictures/news from Red Gate Farm, and we'll try to include them in our Newsletter!

CONGRATULATIONS: EVENTING  to Sara Vitkus, for taking Nike from USEA Beginner Novice to Training level in one year, including the American Eventing Championships!  Christine Vitkus also moved up to Training level and competed in the American Eventing Championships.  Also, congratulations to Stephanie Umstead on William, Brianna Spears on Colorado and Katie Cassidy on Paddy for moving up from Starter Horse Trials to USEA recognized horse trials!   And to Jessica Gresset who is competing in  her first starter horse trial !

CONGRATULATIONS: HUNTERS  to Jessica Gresset, for taking the Reserve High Point Rider in the 2'6" division of the summer Frying Pan Park Hunter series, and to Susan Dunk, for High Point Championship of the 2'3" division of the same series. For many local championships and reserves to Joanna Ward on her pony, Dylin, and to Lauren Rapp on Sassy, Ashley Hentschel on Elana, Sass Dunk on Knight, and many other show team riders too!

Horses Coming and Going:  We welcome to our barn Ruben, Oreo, Saffy and Romeo (privately owned) .  Please see their bios on our Horse page.  Trooper and Paco have been semi-retired. We are always looking for the best horses and ponies to improve our program and doing what is best for each horse.

VHSA Shows:  Our VHSA /Short Circuit did very well!  We will continue to host them in 2012.  We have been extremely happy and thankful to host shows much larger in attendance than previous years.   Consequently, the shows have lasted longer and been more competitive than ever.   If you would like enter the VHSA show, we strongly encourage it!  You will need proper attire.  The entire facility looks beautiful, and the pictures by our photographer are wonderful.  The shows are not too hard, even for the young riders.  They also offer a great opportunity to see some amazing riders from our area.  We end the season with our popular VHSA banquet, which is a huge production with over $3000 in prizes, and not to be missed!

Fox Hunting:  Miss Christine hunts with Loudoun Hunt West.  If you an Intermediate 2 or above rider and would like to cap with her, please call us!

Leasing and Hacking/Practicing: Check out our leasing page!  Most horses can be leased for as little as one day a week.  A lease means that you “rent” the horse for a set number of days per week to ride without an instructor.  The purpose of the lease is to ride more often with one horse to practice skills learned in lessons.  Lower level riders may be able to lease if a parent is a rider or has enough knowledge to assist safely.  Hacking/practicing is a one-time flatwork practice ride for an hour in the ring (not in a lesson).  It must be pre-arranged, and the student must be able to tack up independently.  The cost is nominal.  Both leasing and hacking must be supervised by an adult, and do not include jumping.

Student Horse Show:   EVERY rider should try to attend our Student Horse Shows.  They are casual, inexpensive, fun, a huge confidence booster, and full of ribbons!!   If it rains, the show is held inside in our indoor arena.  Congratulations to all students!

Sign-Up Sheets: Please check the sign-up sheets in the barn.  They are posted for shows, clinics, camps, and any other fun activities we can dream up!

Safety:  Horses can weigh 1200 pounds or more!  Please don’t enter the barn with open-toed shoes or let small children run around unattended.  Younger siblings or friends cannot help groom or tack horses.  Try your best to help maintain order.  DO NOT enter stalls or fields without permission, or forget to close gates or doors to the barn or tackroom. Regarding treats, you are welcome to bring cut up apples and carrots or store-bought horse treats to feed to the horses, but please don't let the horse eat the bag!  You are welcome to bring our bunnies any vegetables also.  Remember, dogs are not allowed to roam on the farm.
