Red Gate Farm has horses available for short and long-term leases, as well as those available for hacks (practice rides).   Some may be available for sale to current students also.  Please direct inquiries to Christine at (540) 882-3530.

A lease means that you commit to renting the horse for a set number of days per week to ride ON SITE without an instructor. The purpose of the lease is to ride more often with one horse in order to practice skills learned in lessons. A hack is a one-hour on site practice ride to students who can ride in the ring without an instructor and who can tack up independently. Leasing and hacks are arranged on a case-by-case basis and do not include jumping.  Leasing and hacking  are only available to current students enrolled in lessons.  They are not a substitute for lessons.

Both leasing and hacking (practicing) must be supervised by an adult.  Hacks are available pre-planned only for $35.

To inquire about a lease, please contact us directly. Those horses or ponies currently open for lease are pictured below.  A one-day lease (preferably Wednesdays) is $120 per month.  2 days is $220; schoolhorse lease is $360 (ponies) and $400 (horses) where you can ride anytime the horse is not used in more than 2 lessons that day.  10% discount for 6 month lease; 15% discount for 1 year lease.  $25 off-site fee for lease rides off the property. 

Keep in mind that a full lease is preferred to several partial leases, as it is more consistent for the horse and easier for us to deal with less people. Leases are not guaranteed to re-new at the end of the term.

Abby Pony of the Americas 12.2 hand Age 18 Little and speedy. She's very sweet and gentle, and loves children. Super on the lounge line. She has shown in local equitation shows and on judged pleasure trail rides. Abby's been with us since spring 2006.	Tuppence Welsh pony cross 12 hands Age 8 New in December, Tuppence arrived with excellent training and manners.  Currently being used in lessons for small, talented riders, she is gaining popularity.  She is SOOOO cute with her small size and blue eyes.	Knight Morgan 14.2 hands Age 20 Knight is a fun and popular pony who always tries his best.  Great on the flat and for jumping too.  He was formerly shown and evented.

CiCi Halflinger 14 hands Age 21 CiCi  is  adorable!  She loves treats, has a prancy trot, and loves being fussed over.  Has very nice gaits and can jump too!  Currently partially leased.	Elana Hanoverian 16 hands Age 20  We just LOVE Elana!  She is quiet, obedient, and well-trained in dressage and jumping.  What a lovely lady!  And so elegant.......	Bon Bon Welsh-X Pony 12.2 hand Age 20+ Bon Bon has taught many children to ride.  She is quick, but honest, and loves lessons. Great for the first lesson, first canter, and first jump course!  Bon Bon has been with us for 3 years.

Tobey "King Bar Leo" Quarter Horse/Paint 15.3 hands Age 10 Tobey is a fun horse that likes kids.  His blue eye is striking.   Nice on the flat, and an experienced jumper too.   Tobey has been with us for 3 years.	Hershey *** currently leased one day per week***   Quarter Pony 14.2 hands Age 16 Hershey has English and Western training. Hershey is very sweet and willing. Suitable for all levels, he tries hard to please.	Paddy Irish Sporthorse 16.3+ hands Age 12  Patty was a well-loved foxhunter before coming to Red Gate Farm.

 

Sassy Welsh pony 13.2 hands Age 20+  Sassy is a cute welsh pony that has taught many children to ride!  She is used in lessons and camps for all abilities.  Popular with many students.	Genie ***  leased Saturdays***   Thoroughbred/X 15.3 hands Age 20 Former Hunter show horse.  Sweet, talented.  Auto everything, but not for beginners. Limited lease opportunity for advanced rider only.	Razz   Paint Pony 13.2 hands Age 10 Razz is a fun, athletic pony for the intermediate rider.   She has a wonderful personality too!

 

Spunky Welsh Pony 13.2 hands Age 17 NEW!  Spunky has shown in the pony divisions.  He has a wonderful personality and is gaining popularity !	Cricket "Perpetually Jackie" *** fully leased*** Thoroughbred/Quarter Horse 15.2 hands Age 13 Forward and athletic. Former Virginia Quarter Horse State Champion. Shown in All-Around (English and Western) and Showmanship. Cricket has been here for 3	Jack "TMF Darkstar" Quarter Horse 16 hands Age 11 Comfortable gaits, western and english. Big, but gentle, he loves kids and adults. Jack has been here for 3 years.

Ruben *** currently leased 3 days per week*** Dutch Warmblood 16.2 hands Age 16  Ruben is our newest horse, and is well-loved already!	Colorado *** currently leased 2 days per week***   Oldenburg 17.2 hands Age 13  Colorado has a  wonderfully sweet personality.  Nice on the flat and willing over fences.	Sully Quarter Horse/ 15.3 hands Age 16 Sully is a popular schoolhorse.  He is an experienced schoolmaster and does well with kids and adults.

Blue Welsh Pony 13.2 hands Age 9  Blue has shown from leadline to the pony divisions.  He is good to learn on for every level!	Davio *** currently fully leased ***   "Aegis" Hanoverian/Tb 16 hands Age 15  Davio has shown in dressage, hunters, and jumpers.  He is an uncomplicated ride for intermediates.	William *** currently fully leased *** Tbx 16.+ hands Age 16  NEW! William was a well-loved foxhunter and eventer before coming to Red Gate Farm.  Advanced riders only.
