All summer camps are weekly and include a riding lesson each day, many fun horsey topics, and horse crafts. Extended care is available for $8 per hour. Kids will ride and take care of the same pony/horse all week. Swim time is offered most afternoons in our on-site heated pool! Types of Camp: 3 types of camp are offered: Pre-School Camp, Horse Camp, and Eventing Camp. Pre-School Camp is a 4-day afternoon camp for children ages 3-6. No experience is necessary. Gentle introduction to horse safety, grooming, tacking, riding, and crafts. Horse Camp is an all-day program for children ages 6-14, which also includes swimming. No experience is necessary. Riders are grouped by ability first, then by age. 1/2 day horse camp, for our younger riders, is also offered without swimming. Please call for details!
Eventing Camp is for 10-16 year olds that have experience. All riders must be able to trot in a group. All riders will learn a dressage test and a stadium jump course. Those riders that can canter a course of jumps will be allowed to learn cross-country also. More intense and individualized instruction then horse camp. The last day, all riders will perform in an event, and will win ribbons.
Horse Camp Riding Lesson topics: Children are grouped by ability. Lesson topics covered depend on the children’s ability, but will include trotting, pony games, and a trail ride. Most will ride bareback and jump also. Horse Camp Ground Lesson Topics: We will be busy taking care of our horses, including grooming, feeding, bathing, saddling, and cleaning stalls. Basic veterinary and farrier (horseshoeing) duties will be discussed. We’ll learn the parts of the horse, and about different breeds and colors. We’ll visit some new foals at a local farm. And, just for fun, we’ll decorate horse t-shirts and create horse crafts too. Eventing Camp Riding Lesson topics: All lessons will focus on dressage (a memorized pattern of halting, walking, trotting, and perhaps cantering for intermediate riders), stadium jumping (a jump course in the ring), and cross country jumping in the field for those who are ready. The last day, the campers perform 2 or 3 phases of the event, scoring is introduced, and ribbons are awarded. Eventing Camp Ground Lesson Topics: We will be taking care of our horses, including grooming, feeding, bathing, saddling, and cleaning stalls. Most of our time is devoted to the sport of eventing, which is the triathlon of horseback riding. It takes time to learn our dressage tests, the rules of the sport, and how it is judged. We will do some fun horsey crafts, and prepare for our real event! Expectations: Summer camp is the perfect time to develop a bond with their horse as well as meet new friends. We emphasize becoming safe and responsible around horses, having fun (very important!), learning all about horse topics, and progressing their riding level. WEEKS OF CAMP 2011:
